Crowns, Bridges & Veneers

Dental crowns, bridges or veneers can provide attractive, permanently fixed solutions for patients with damaged or missing teeth or other cosmetic issues. Our prosthodontists' additional training allows them to provide solutions that restore or replace teeth and improve the esthetics of a smile.

  • Dental Crowns

When individual teeth are chipped, cracked or decayed beyond the point where fillings or bondings can address the damage, porcelain crowns are a great solution to save and protect teeth while returning them to a natural-looking state. Often called caps, crowns are natural-looking, fixed protective coverings that fit over and protect the damaged tooth, restoring functionality while providing an esthetically pleasing appearance.

Undetectable to most observers, crowns are custom crafted to look just like your natural teeth and restore your bite to normal while providing a nearly permanent solution to protect and save damaged teeth. Crowns are also used with dental implants to provide a fixed solution for missing teeth.

The dentist or prosthodontist begins by addressing the damage to your existing tooth and preparing it for a crown. Impressions and/or measurements are taken in order to design and fabricate your crown to look, feel and fit just like a healthy, natural tooth. The crown is then fit over the prepared tooth and permanently adhered to it to restore its functionality and natural appearance.

While there are several different materials that can be used for dental crowns, all porcelain crowns and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns offer advantages in meeting esthetic demands, strength and durability. ond The type and composition of your crown will be determined by the prosthodontist to best fit your needs.

  • Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used as fixed replacements for one or more missing teeth. By providing a means to secure replacement teeth in the gaps left by the missing teeth, bridges can return your normal bite and functionality while providing a natural-looking appearance. By filling the gap left by missing teeth, bridges help prevent the adjoining teeth from shifting, which can lead to decreased functionality and an increase in periodontal disease.

Bridges are made up of one or more dental porcelain crowns that are joined together and adhered to the teeth on the sides of the missing tooth on teeth for a secure, functional fit. Often bridges involve placing crowns of the adjoining teeth as part of the structure and support of the bridge. X-rays, impressions and, in many cases, photographs are taken to assist in the design and fabrication of a bridge. Since a bridge does involve several teeth, great care is taken in the crafting and preparation of the bridge to ensure a great fit and the desired functionality.

  • Cosmetic Veneers

A popular way to improve smiles affected by worn or less attractive teeth is through the use of dental veneers. Dental veneers are very thin toothlike materials that are applied to the front surfaces of prepared teeth to help create beautiful smiles. Porcelain veneers have become a preferred solution for smile makeovers and other applications where beauty and durability are an issue.

Veneers can improve the appearance of crooked, chipped or discolored teeth and are resistant to stains, so they stay brighter longer. Most often used on front teeth where esthetics are most important, dental veneers can be used to address issues with single teeth or provide a complete smile makeover.
