Meet Dr. Alexandre Ribeiro, Periodontics and Periodontal Prostheses Specialist at Dental Specialty Center of Kendall

In our new, modern, multi-specialty dental offices at MedSquare Health, just across the street from Baptist Hospital of Miami, Dr. Alexandre Ribeiro offers restorative surgery, periodontal, and prosthetic dental care at Dental Specialty Center in Kendall. He brings a level of professionalism and patient care to the practice that few dental practitioners have achieved.

Ask Dr. Ribeiro a question in English, Spanish, or Portuguese, and you won’t have any trouble understanding his response. Not only is he fluent in all three languages, but he also has a gift for explaining incredibly complex procedures in clear, straightforward terms. Dr. Ribeiro has been with Dental Specialty Center Kendall for 13 years, and patients rave about his care.

Driven by Passion

Dr. Ribiero says dentistry is his calling, and he’d do nothing else. He is passionate about helping people by getting them out of pain and delivering a strong, healthy smile with contemporary technology and techniques. Dr. Ribeiro designs smiles that endure the rigors of daily use for years. Patients reward him by showing off their beautiful, fresh smiles!

In addition, Dr. Ribeiro places great emphasis on patient education. He teaches patients about gum disease’s impact on whole health, as well as its connection to inflammatory and systemic diseases. To ward off gum disease and other dental health concerns, the dentist teaches that consistency is key for home and professional dental care to work. He believes a solid dental hygiene regimen is the secret to long-term success with dental health.

Out of the office, Dr. Ribeiro is an active outdoorsman who enjoys everything from biking to diving. He has a deep and abiding passion for soccer; his favorite team is Flamengo from Rio de Janeiro.

Advanced Education & Professional Memberships

Dr. Ribeiro earned his master’s degree in oral biology, with research in dental implants. After receiving his doctorate in dentistry and passing the National Board Dental Examinations, Dr. Ribeiro was accepted into the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Dental Medicine.

He spent four years studying periodontics and periodontal prosthesis at one of the top dental schools in the country, the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia.

Dr. Ribeiro continues to fine-tune his already formidable clinical skills by attending additional training and numerous dental seminars and conferences each year. He holds membership in the American Academy of Periodontics and the Academy of Osseointegration.

Total Dental Care

Providing endodontics, periodontics, dental implants, and oral surgery in one location appeals to Dr. Ribeiro because it serves his patients well. Working in a multi-specialty dental office, Dr. Ribeiro consults with his fellow dentists and specialists on cases so that patients receive total, comprehensive dentistry that looks and feels natural for decades–and in the case of dental implant patients, for life.

About Gum Disease

Approximately half of Americans avoid going to the dentist. Most people need to pay more attention to proper home care, maybe brushing once a day instead of twice and altogether avoiding flossing. The American diet and lack of prioritizing dental care have led to these statistics from the Centers for Disease Control:

  1. Half of the people aged 30 and older have gum disease
  2. Over 70% of people over 70 years of age have gum disease
  3. About 65% of smokers have gum disease

Gum disease is a chronic condition that involves inflammation and infection of gum tissue and connective tissues that hold teeth in their sockets. Patients of any age can develop gum disease. It is the main cause of adult tooth loss and has been connected to serious health conditions, including heart disease, stroke, dementia, low-weight births, and medical  complications for diabetics.

Brushing and flossing daily, and visiting your general dentist every six months and when abnormalities arise in your mouth, can deter gum disease. Poor oral health, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, age, hormone fluctuations, and certain medications and medical treatments increase the risk of developing gum disease.

If you notice red, swollen, tender gums, a foul mouth odor that won’t subside, or bleeding and/or pus from your gums, you may have gum disease. This condition will not heal naturally once it reaches the moderate stage, and it can quickly escalate. Professional periodontal care is necessary to restore good oral health and reduce the health risks associated with gum disease.

As a periodontist, Dr. Ribeiro treats all stages of gum disease, offering patients guidance and instruction for alleviating gingivitis, and providing surgical intervention for advanced periodontal disease. He restores mouths harmed by gum disease, as well. Dr. Ribeiro places gum grafts and dental prosthetics, including dental implants, for victims of advanced gum disease. He can help you reclaim great oral health, fresh breath, and strong teeth.
